MISSION OF THE LIBRARY :
A College Library exists for the promotion of the objectives of the College education.With this tradition the library aims to provide timely,accurate,current information and materials to its valuable users for education,teaching and research.The college Library occupies a prominent place in the intellectual life of college community and it is sure to grow in importance and usefulness in the years ahead.
GRANTS :
The Library is growing fast due to the generous grants given by the benevolent management recommended by the principal and vice principal.During the year 2007-08 , the library received a grant amount of Rs.2,30,000/- for procurement of books for the central library,Departmental libraries including Book-bank.The books in the library are classified and arranged according to the Dewey decimal classification system.
LIBRARY RESOURCES :
There are about 84,571 volumes in Computer Science, Management, Economics, Commerce,Information technology, Language and literature books in English, Arabic, Urdu, French and Generalia.
BOOK-BANK:
The College libraray runs a Book-Bank for the benefit of the poor students.standard text books are made available in the Book-bank.Current textbooks on all subjects are available on loan.At present there are about 18,394 boooks in the Bokk-Bank.
REFERENCE COLLECTION :
Reference Collection contains Dictionaries,Handbooks,Directories,Standard reference materials and copies of course-related books.Items from this collection cannot be borrowed.These are for "in-the-library" use only.Encyclopedias on various subjects are procured and added to the exiting collection
LIBRARY RULES :
The college library, including
general and department libraries, contains 64923 volumes. The departmental
libraries are under the charge of the professors concerned and books
are issued according to the special rules framed by them.
The books in the library are classified and arranged according
to the decimal classification system.
The library receives regularly 49 outstanding periodicals,2 foreign periodicals,newspapers and 28 journals. They are placed in the reading room
for the use of students.
Students and teaching staff of the college are entitled
to use the library.
The library and the reading room will be kept open from
9.30. a.m. to 1.00. p.m. and from 2.00.p.m to 4.00 p.m on all working days. Strict silence should
be observed in the library at all times.
Books will be issued from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 2.00.p.m to 3.00 p.m on all
working days.
An undergraduate student will be provided with one borrower's
ticket which entitles him to borrow one book and a postgraduate
student with two tickets against which he can borrow two books.
Books are lent in exchange of tickets. Before leaving the
counter the member must satisfy himself as to whether the book lent
to him is in good condition. If not, he should bring the matter
to the notice of the librarian immediately.
A member borrowing a book from the library shall be fully
responsible for its safe custody. In the event of any damage of
loss he shall replace it with a new copy of the book or pay such
compensation as may be decided by the principal.
When a book is returned, the ticket kept in exchange of
it should be immediately taken back. As long as his ticket is in
the library he will be held responsible for any book taken on it.
All books on loan must be returned before the expiry of
two weeks from the date of issue.
If books are returned after the due date, the tickets will
be handed over to the member only if an overdue charge at the rate
of 25 paise per book per day is paid.
A member against whom overdue or other charges are outstanding
will not be allowed to borrow books.
Fine will be collected regardless of the leave of absence,
if any granted by the college.
Books due on a holiday which is also a library holiday may
be returned on the next working day of the library.
Borrowers are not allowed to sub-lend the book to any person
whomsoever.
The Librarian may, for the purpose of cataloguing or for
any other reason recall a book at any time even during the period
of issue. The book may be reissued to the same borrower after the
purpose for which it had been recalled is served.
Books may be renewed for a further period of a fortnight
provided that:
(i)The application for renewal reaches the Librarian three days
before the due date,
(ii)no other reader has applied for the book in the meantime and
(iii)not more than one renewal has been made previously for the same
book.
Any book which is temporarily in demand may be lent for
a shorter period than a fortnight or may be declared for a period
as a reference book.
Library books, periodicals, maps, etc., should not be marked,
written upon or damaged. Taking clippings from periodicals and any
other form of library property is strictly forbidden.
The Librarian may exclude, at his discretion, from the privileges
of the college library, any borrower for infringement of the rules
of library.
Students will be entitled, subject to rules, to keep books
for two weeks from the date of issue.
Reference books can be consulted after a formal application.
When a reference book is returned it should be handed over
to the Librarian and the consultation slip taken back. As long as
the consultation slip is in the library, the borrower is responsible
for the book for which the slip is taken in exchange.
Books of reference and current periodicals shall not be
taken out of the library. Only a pencil or pen and loose sheets
of writing papers are allowed in the library.
The Librarian has the right to check each student before
he leaves the library to find out whether he carries any books of
the library without the knowledge of the Librarian.
Staff members are not permitted to retain any books borrowed
by them after the college closes for the summer vacation and they
should return the same before the last day of the third term. Failure
to comply with this rule will entail recovery of the value of the
book from the defaulting members of the staff.
The Librarian, the attendants and the readers shall be responsible
individually or collectively for any loss or damage done to the
books or other property belonging to the library and either intentionally
or otherwise. The Principal's decision on this matter will be final.
A member who has lost his borrower's ticket shall make a
written report to the Librarian. A period of one month will be allowed
to the member to trace and return the ticket. If after this period,
it is still untraceable, an undertaking in writing shall be given
to the effect that the member will hold himself responsible for
any unauthorised borrowing in exchange for the lost ticket. On such
an undertaking being given, a duplicate ticket will be issued on
payment of RS. 5/-
MEMBERSHIP :
The Library has a student membership of 5600 and staff membership of about 145.Both teaching and administrative staff.They are making use of the library frequently for their study and research.
CIRCULATION STATISTICS :
In the year 2007-08 the students borrowed 8050 books and 1718 volumes were consulted
VISITORS :
The average number of visitors has been increased.During this year 10070 students visited the library and used the various collection.It is hoped that large number of students will make use of library in future.
